BEYOND THE TRENCHES WITH KEN GRIGAS (Wednesday, June 5 @ 7:00 p.m.)
Join us for a talk from local historian Ken Grigas as he shares with us what life was like in the trenches of Europe during World War I and here on the American homefront. This event will take part turning the traveling exhibit “Beyond the Trenches: Stories from the Front” from the Wisconsin Veterans Museum which will be on display from Thursday, May 30 – Friday, June 14. Questions & answer session and reception to follow.

Over 122,000 Wisconsin men and women served on land, sea, and in the air during World War I. The traveling exhibit World War I Beyond the Trenches: Stories from the Front will be on display at the Germantown Community Library from Thursday, May 30 – Friday, June 14. This exhibit from the Wisconsin Veterans Museum includes 16 banners and details first person accounts of individuals in Wisconsin that played a role in shaping global history.

The Germantown Community Library is participating in our first Battle of the Books competition. Open to students ages 11 – 18. Individuals and their teams (up to 5 members) read and compete in their knowledge of characters, plots, settings, and events in the books. Feeling stressed? Looking to try something new? Come to the library for an introduction on how meditation and mindfulness can help you feel calmer and happier. Paul Norton is a retired pediatrician and practicing Mahayana Buddhist with over 30 years of experience in meditation. He has taught meditation in a variety of settings, including civic and church groups, as well as prison outreach. Dr. Norton will be here on Wednesday, June 26 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., and will present a follow up session on Wednesday, July 24 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. You are welcome to attend one or both sessions. The Germantown Community Library Board of Trustees has authority over library funding and expenditures, policies and procedures, and the Library Director. Library Board meetings are typically held on the 4th Wednesday of every month and are open to the public.

The Mystery/Thriller Book Group generally meets the 4th Thursday of each month from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. in the library’s large meeting room. Join us for some interesting reading and lively conversation. No registration is required. All are welcome! Free coffee, tea, and hot chocolate provided by the Friends of the Germantown Community Library!

Bring your own Ukulele, play some tunes, and have some fun! We will meet on select Fridays from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. No prior experience is necessary. Geared for grade 4 & up. Registration required. Call the library at 262-253-7760 or visit the Youth Services Desk to sign-up.
Join other library patrons from Dodge, Ozaukee, Sheboygan, and Washington County libraries for a day on the marsh! This fun-filled event, held rain or shine, is FREE and for all ages. Family Fun @ Horicon Marsh offers many indoor and outdoor activities such as wildlife walks, archery, dip netting, face painting, a photo booth, crafts for kids, and more. You are welcome to pack a picnic lunch. Food and water will also be available for purchase.
