Fines and Fees

Overdue fines and replacement fees are assessed to ensure that Germantown Community Library’s items are returned on time and undamaged. A patron’s borrowing privileges will be suspended once $5.00 or more in fines and/or fees has accumulated.

Overdue Fines

Overdue Fines are based on the policy of the library when items are checked out.  At Germantown Community Library, Juvenile and Young Adult materials are fine free.  Other books, audiobooks, magazines, music CDs, and DVDs/Blu-ray materials incur a $.10 per day, per item overdue fine. Library of Things and other unique items incur larger overdue fines based on the item.

Fines are applied only on days when the library is open. The amount of the fine for an item cannot exceed $5.00 or the replacement cost, whichever is less.  Library of Things materials may have higher maximum fines.

Replacement Fees
When an item is lost or damaged beyond repair, the replacement cost on record will be assessed to the patron’s account. Overdue fines for the item will be waived.

Once the replacement cost has been paid for an item, no refund can be given. The item becomes property of the patron.
