  • WWI Beyond the Trenches

    BEYOND THE TRENCHES WITH KEN GRIGAS (Wednesday, June 5 @ 7:00 p.m.)

    Join us for a talk from local historian Ken Grigas as he shares with us what life was like in the trenches of Europe during World War I and here on the American homefront.  This event will take part turning the traveling exhibit “Beyond the Trenches: Stories from the Front” from the Wisconsin Veterans Museum which will be on display from Thursday, May 30 – Friday, June 14.  Questions & answer session and reception to follow.

    Stop in the 1st Thursday of the month anytime from 4:00 – 7:30 p.m. for a variety of different crafts.  Crafts are geared towards ages 5 to 11, but all ages are welcome to attend.

  • WWI Exhibit Ends

    WORLD WAR I TRAVELING EXHIBIT

    Over 122,000 Wisconsin men and women served on land, sea, and in the air during World War I.  The traveling exhibit World War I Beyond the Trenches: Stories from the Front will be on display at the Germantown Community Library from Thursday, May 30 – Friday, June 14.  This exhibit from the Wisconsin Veterans Museum includes 16 banners and details first person accounts of individuals in Wisconsin that played a role in shaping global history.

    Usbourne Books offers a huge variety of books for babies through teenagers.  Books can be purchased in the library or online through our website or facebook page.  30% of all sales goes to support future programs and materials in the youth services department.

     

  • Battle of the Books Meeting

    The Germantown Community Library is participating in our first Battle of the Books competition.  Open to students ages 11 – 18.  Individuals and their teams (up to 5 members) read and compete in their knowledge of characters, plots, settings, and events in the books.  Your library’s winning team will compete against teams from other local libraries at the Final Competition at the Lomira Quad/Graphic Community on Friday, July 26 @ 1:00 p.m.  If you are not able to attend the informational meeting, please contact the library at (262) 253-7760 or email Jackie at jkolo@germantownlibrarywi.org.  Copies of each title can be found at the Youth Services Desk or online: http://germantownlibrarywi.org/teen-programs/

Come to the library for an introduction on how meditation and mindfulness can help you feel calmer and happier.  Paul Norton is a retired pediatrician and practicing Mahayana Buddhist with over 30 years of experience in meditation.  He has taught meditation in a variety of settings, including civic and church groups, as well as prison outreach.  Dr. Norton will be here on Wednesday, June 26 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., and will present a follow up session on Wednesday, July 24 from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.  You are welcome to attend one or both sessions.  Registration recommended.  Please call or visit the library to sign-up.
