Guidelines and Expectations:

Background: A Christkindlmarkt is a traditional German outdoor market that takes place during the Advent season. These markets were well-known for high quality gifts, food and holiday cheer. Borrowing the German word for children “Kinder” and combining it with market, we hope to create a special Christkindlmarkt event for kids, by kids.

Basic Info: The Kindermarket is a youth event for children ages 5-17 to sell, trade, or purchase items made by other kids. Participants applying for table space should be prepared with multiples of items they have handmade, home-grown, or home-baked to sell. Kindermarket is on Saturday, December 7 from 10:30am – 12:30pm.

Application Form: You will need to complete an application form to participate. You can pick up an application at the youth services desk at the library. Applications will be accepted until we reach booth capacity.

Location: The Kindermarket will be held indoors in the Germantown Library Community Rooms.

Product Guidelines: Children will have the best luck selling products for a few dollars or less – please take that into consideration when determining what to make and sell. NO RUMMAGE SALE ITEMS. This is a youth event, and adults may not sell or advertise their products, services, or business at this event.

Pricing: Children set their own prices for items but may consider guidance from their parent/caregiver. Please remember to bring a cashbox with your own change. Bartering is also encouraged!

Purchasing: Purchasing items from KinderMarket is open to the public. Cash only. Please note that the library will not be able to break change for you. Vendors will have cashboxes.

Set-up: Children have the primary responsibility for set-up, maintenance, and break-down of their “storefront” with assistance from their parent/caregiver. A cooler may be necessary if items are perishable. You will be assigned a booth number upon approval of your application form. You may begin set-up at 9:30am. Please be fully set-up by 10:30am.

Safety: Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult (18+) at all times. No open flames are allowed indoors. There will be limited electrical access.

Food Preparation: Please make sure you consider sanitation and cleanliness when you prepare and display your products. Food items should be individually wrapped.
