The first public library in Germantown, Wisconsin, opened in 1963. It was funded in part by a generous donation from Emma Duerrwaechter.
Germantown Community Library’s second location is where the Police Department is currently located on Mequon Road.
GCL moved to its current location, next door to the old one, once the building was completed in 2002.
Through the years, the Germantown Community Library has grown from a collection of 2,000 items to over 130,000 items.
